2009 Gold Buff Proof - "first strike" status

I managed to get my order in and was wondering if anybody knew what the criteria was at NGC to receive the "first strike" label? Not even sure if I will send it off but I have a few other first strikes and it might be nice to have a matching 09 proof to add to the set. TIA :ok:

BTW - The site seems to be performing much better than it did for the Lincoln chronicle release...

I am just banking on the limited production time left in the year and the fact that no other gold proof coin was released this year...unless of course you count the spouses, are they even in the same league:dontknow:

surprise to me. It is much easier to order at 12:0Xpm today, when you compared it to the Lincoln set

Maybe because this coin costs $1360 vs $59.95 for the Lincoln set? Many more buyers at $60 than $1360.

ditto...

Could it be that the US Mint upgraded the servers?

Maybe the proof buffs aren't moving like the UHR or LC&C.?
It will be interesting to see what the mintages will be. Hopefully the sells are slow and the '09 run will end in Jan.

I think maybe an infrastructure upgrade after the public apology on how bad their site had performed with any kind of traffic hitting it.

If I'm not mistaken (w/o going to their site) cutoff is 30 days after issue.
If you do not open the box with the ship-date intact you will receive the designation.

There is really no reason to think the sales will cut off at the end of the year.... in the past it's only been the bullion issues that have been subject to this cutoff. Proofs have been sold well into the following year.

it's always been strange how the mint has issued the buffs.
At the best, all I can do is guess.

Also, the Lincoln set had a known limit of 50,000 before it went on sale, and a limit of one per household. Demand was greater before it even went on sale. There were even ebay presales before the mint had them for sale.

No household limit on the Buffalo. I am going to wait to see if the price of gold drops before I bite.
